Happy New Year, Shop Update.

Happy New Year to Everyone. I just wanted to give a shop update. I still do not have a date that I will re-open the shop. This post is a bit long winded so please forgive me.
I have had to take time off to part-time home school my son Chris. He has learning disabilities and this year in his new school they did not give him any extra support at all. I mean no E.A. No Classroom extra help, No extra help from the teacher, Nothing! He is 12 and working at around the grade 4-5 level for some subjects and lower for others. They did not even adjust his grade level to his needs, which means he was expected to do grade 7 level with no extra help. So I am having to try to figure out how to best help him. We pulled him from that school and now have him in a small private school part time, but they have no E.A. so subjects like math and reading we are having to do at home. I struggle myself with these subjects so this is quite the interesting situation.
On top of this my lovely Mother in Law is struggling with stage 4 cancer. This has put alot of stress on all of our family and we are trying to find our way though the mist of coping with illness.
I am still trying to also get an area for me to work at as our basement reno has very much stalled. Grrrrrr
So I do apologies for not having things up and running again but hopefully I will be able to get a rhythm going and get back into the swing of things.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Jenn

  2. Greetings Jenn,
I have never posted here, but I have some experience with kids falling under the Special education umbrella in the US. I don't know what country you live in, but I would suspect your son has certain rights. Every child in the US has the right to a free and appropriate education....It Is known by the acronym IDEA.....Try doing a Google search for your country. You may have some due process issues that usually scare the crap out of public educators.
    I hope this helps

    1. Hi Carrie,
We live in Ontario Canada, our government has been cutting special education services for the past 12 years. Grrrr Seems silly as we now more than ever before have more children in need of extra help. I am planning on finding out some more information, if there might be any help to be had I do not know. I do know that the school is broken in many ways and that children are left behind on purpose, we have experienced many years of this already. Thank you for taking the time to comment, Jenn

  4. Goodness Jenn what a load on your shoulders. I am so sorry to hear you are not able to get the support for your son that he needs. Having a child struggle is hard, having them struggle when you know full well they would manage if only they had the support they needed would be even harder. I really hope you find some solutions that will help him on his way.
Warmest wishes to your mother-in-law, I hope the mist eases for you all. Most importantly try to remember to look after yourself...

    1. Thank you so much Anna for taking the time to comment and send me your warm wishes. I truly appreciate it. I am going to look into trying to get some more support, I just wish all I had to teach him was art related. Than I would be fine. lol Jenn

  5. Hang in there, Jenn. I know what it feels like to go through a period where not a single thing seems easy. One by one, your problems will be resolved and life will become happier again. Till then, mini hugs!

  6. I remember when my son needed extra help at school too so I entirely understand your priorities there along with being there for a family member coping with an aggressive illness. And then those incomplete home renos on top of it all!!!
there's definitely A LOT on your plate right now Jennifer and minis SHOULD take a back seat until all the other more important things are sorted out.

    1. Hi Elizabeth, sorry for my late reply. I sometimes mean to reply right away and then get distracted. Trying to be more organized this year, it is so difficult too know exactly what is right too do sometimes. I miss my minis and still need some creative outlet. I put together some Lego with Chris and had fun with that yet we are still doing something together. Did some more organizing of the boxes I have stored with my minis so things might be easier to find lol Thank you for your comment. Take care, Jenn
